Team Spotlight: Maddie McIntosh
Maddie McIntosh Bartender, Jojo’s Beloved Cocktail Lounge
What is your hometown? I’m from South Georgia originally. A small town called Bainbridge. I moved to Atlanta to finish my degree from Georgia State University in Studio Art. I’m creative in general and I felt like Atlanta had a lot to inspire me with. Moving to Atlanta felt like coming home. The community of people here, in and out of the art and F&B industries have really created a feeling of family and home. I hope that the two industries stay intertwined and continue to support each other and help each grow.
Favorite Sandwich? I’d have to go with a classic BLT. Maybe on a Hawaiian bread or something to mix it up.
Coffee or Tea? Coffee. 100%. Favorite? My favorite coffee is the one that is brought to me in bed.
One of the first things many notice about you when meeting you in person, and also through the imagery of Jojo’s on our socials is your personal style, which is so great. Have you always had a flair for fashion, and where do you get your inspiration for your looks? Oh! Thank you. I think it kind of is another way for me to have a creative outlet. I do a lot of thrifting too. I think I get a lot of inspiration from street wear and checking out the different styles in the different neighborhoods of Atlanta, which are all unique in their style.
Favorite drink on the Jojo’s menu: It’s really simple and reliable, and it’s a scotch cocktail, based on a Godfather which is a classic. It’s called “My Offer is Nothing”. It’s scotch but it’s really approachable. You can taste nutty, herbal, and peaty notes. It’s a really nice light drink.
I know all of the bartenders are involved in the creative process when it comes to ideas and keeping Jojo’s fresh. What has been fun for you? I think my favorite memory from this past year was when I did a takeover for the menu on a Monday night and it was called the Y2K. My friends all came in late 90s and early 2000s outfits. We just got to listen to artists like N’Sync and Spice Girls all night. Everything from the cocktails and clothes were inspired by the late 1990’s.
What else are you doing with your time? Any other projects? All the time. I’ve been doing some pop ups around town lately. Kind of coordinating events with other DJs and working some fun parties. It’s called Bar Besties. Me and a friend from the industry started this together. We collaborate with friends and DJs organizing parties. I also do make up artistry like special effects makeup and special event styling. I try to stay creative through painting and sculpture. I also just recently shot a commercial with Maker’s Mark.
